Mac is drawn into an international plot by Abe, grandfather of his godson Jeffrey: a stolen stealth helicopter and a Caribbean leader’s capture entangle Abe’s scheme with Jeffrey’s family reconciliation. Mac moves into a new neighborhood and helps its residents, then suspects Murdoc has returned. During a Phoenix Foundation assignment protecting a human-rights trial, supporters of a deposed dictator plot his return; Mac is captured at their rocket-launch site before he can stop them.
A fire investigation turns tragic when Prometheus’s device kills Mac’s friend in the Arson Squad. Mac follows the clues to find the arsonist after the new chief dismisses him. The Colton brothers investigate a Chinatown power struggle after Jesse is shot, while Mac helps them escape a timed bomb. In Little Haiti, Mac confronts extortionists threatening shopkeepers with Baron Samdi and rescues a kidnapped student. In two dream episodes, he joins Merlin at King Arthur’s court, frees Cecilia from Morgana and Sir Duncan, clears his ancestor’s name, and learns his first name is Angus.
In “The Stringer,” Mac uncovers Chinese forced labor with journalist Sam, who is confirmed to be his son after identifying his mother, Kate Malloy, as Mac’s old girlfriend. On a freighter, Mac and Sam free journalist Mei Jan; when she takes a gun against Chung, Sam persuades her to let him face legal justice. Pete offers Mac a new Phoenix contract, but Mac declines and says he needs to catch up with Sam. Leaving the Foundation, father and son set out traveling together. “The Mountain of Youth,” broadcast after this intended finale, separately follows Mac and Jack into an Asian valley in search of a fountain of youth.
