Although Lucifer won the contest to succeed God, he remains on Earth and keeps postponing his coronation, unsure whether he should take the role. Rory, his and Chloe’s adult daughter from the future, arrives furious that Lucifer was absent during a major event in her life. Her anger triggers her time travel and desire for revenge; she believes he is destined to disappear and presses him to explain. Amenadiel considers the throne, while Dan remains a ghost unable to reach Heaven. Lucifer’s work with Chloe and Rory brings him back to unresolved cases and the people trapped in their own guilt.
Lucifer visits Jimmy Barnes, the first criminal he and Chloe caught, and sees how Jimmy’s abandonment shaped his Hell loop; understanding that childhood wound changes how Lucifer sees the souls he once punished. Dan later resolves his guilt by speaking with Trixie through Vincent Le Mec’s body and ascends to Heaven. Vincent kidnaps Rory, but Lucifer persuades her to spare him, and Chloe shoots Vincent when he attacks. Rory asks her parents to preserve the events that brought her to the past, then returns to her future. Lucifer accepts that his calling is to help souls escape Hell, not to become God; Amenadiel takes the throne. Chloe lives out her life and, after her death, reunites with Lucifer in Hell, where they work together as partners.
