Hurley follows instructions from Jacob's ghost to lead Jack away from the Temple. He persuades Jack by repeating a phrase connected to Jack's father, then takes him through the jungle to a lighthouse. A numbered dial bears the survivors' names, and its mirrors show Jack's childhood home when he turns it to his own number. Angry at the idea that Jacob has watched his life, Jack smashes the mirrors. Jacob later tells Hurley that bringing Jack there served its purpose, even without a working signal. He also warns that someone dangerous is approaching the Temple and that their friends are in trouble.
In the flash-sideways, Jack struggles to connect with his son David while helping his mother find Christian's will. They discover Claire Littleton's name among its beneficiaries. Jack then learns that David has secretly entered a piano audition, attends his performance and reassures him that he does not need to fear disappointing his father. On the island, Claire treats Jin's wounded leg and interrogates Justin about Aaron. Jin tells her that Kate took Aaron away, but retracts the truth after Claire kills Justin. Claire says she would kill Kate if Kate had raised her son. Her friend arrives at the camp wearing Locke's face, and Claire makes clear that she knows he is someone else.
