Sun loses faith in the freighter crew and plans to join Locke’s camp with Jin. Juliet warns her that a pregnancy conceived on the island will kill her if she stays. When the couple still tries to leave, Juliet tells Jin about Sun’s affair. Jin walks away, but a fishing trip with Bernard leads him to reconsider his own past behavior. He forgives Sun, who confirms that their baby is his, and they agree they must leave the island.
On the freighter, Sayid and Desmond receive a note warning them against the captain. Regina jumps overboard wrapped in chains, and Captain Gault refuses to risk more lives trying to rescue her. He names Charles Widmore as his employer and presents the recovered flight recorder as evidence of a staged wreck. Gault blames Ben for arranging the false wreck. Later, Sayid and Desmond recognize Michael working aboard under the name Kevin Johnson.
Off-island scenes combine two different periods. Sun’s flashforward shows her giving birth to a daughter without Jin beside her. Jin’s frantic search for a toy panda is a flashback: he delivers it on Mr. Paik’s behalf to a Chinese ambassador’s family, only two months into his marriage. He is not trying to reach Sun’s delivery. In the future, Hurley visits Sun and the baby, Ji Yeon, before accompanying them to Jin’s grave, where Sun mourns his absence.
