Flashbacks show Locke planning to propose to Helen before his father's apparent death interrupts their plans. Anthony Cooper is alive and has staged the funeral to escape men he cheated. He asks Locke to retrieve money from a bank, offering him a share. Locke lies to Helen and helps him, but she follows him to the meeting. When she discovers the deception, she leaves despite Locke's proposal, refusing another relationship organised around his father's demands.
In the Swan, a warning precedes the blast doors closing around Locke and the prisoner. Locke wedges a door open, then becomes trapped when it falls onto his legs. With the countdown continuing, he sends Henry through the ventilation system to reach the computer. While pinned down, Locke sees a diagram appear across the door under ultraviolet light. The doors eventually retract, and Henry returns claiming he entered the code and did what Locke asked.
Meanwhile, Jack wins medicine from Sawyer in a poker game. Later, he and Kate discover a parachuted supply pallet in the jungle and meet Sayid's returning party. Back in the hatch, Locke defends Henry as the man who helped him. Sayid reports that the balloon and grave were where the map indicated, but digging deeper exposed the lie: the buried body was a man carrying identification for Henry Gale, whose photograph does not match their prisoner.
