Fire + Water

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Charlie has disturbing dreams in which Aaron appears threatened by the ocean and figures resembling his mother and Claire tell him to save the baby. He wakes on the beach holding Aaron without understanding how he took him, frightening Claire. Eko suggests that the dreams may have meaning, and Charlie becomes convinced that Aaron needs baptism. Claire does not accept his attempts to intervene. Locke suspects that Charlie has resumed using heroin after learning about his concealed statues. Charlie insists that he has not used the drugs. He nevertheless starts a fire to distract the camp and takes Aaron toward the surf, intending to baptize him himself.

Claire and the others confront Charlie, and he finally gives Aaron back. Locke punches him repeatedly, and the group leaves him alone on the beach. Claire later asks Eko about baptism, and he baptizes both her and Aaron. Locke secures the statues in the gun room. Flashbacks follow Charlie's attempts to preserve his relationship with Liam and revive their failing music career. Liam misses his daughter's birth while using drugs and disrupts a diaper commercial featuring the band. After his wife rejects him, Liam sells Charlie's piano to fund a move to Australia and seek rehabilitation, leaving Charlie behind. Elsewhere on the island, Hurley and Libby spend time together, and he wonders why she seems familiar to him.
