Before the crash, Locke works in an office where his manager mocks his plans for an Australian walkabout. He invites Helen, a woman he pays to speak with by telephone, to accompany him, but she refuses. In Australia, the tour operator excludes him because of his physical condition. The flashbacks reveal that Locke used a wheelchair before Flight 815, despite being able to stand and move freely since waking on the island.
Boars raid the fuselage at night, and Jack decides that the bodies inside must be burned. With recovered food running out, Locke proposes a hunt and reveals his collection of knives. Kate and Michael accompany him, with Kate also carrying an antenna for Sayid's attempt to locate the French broadcast. Michael is hurt, forcing Kate to help him back. She drops the antenna after hearing the jungle threat, while Locke continues alone and faces something unseen.
Rose tells Jack that she believes her husband survived even though he was in the aircraft's missing tail section. Jack then follows a distant man in a suit, but finds Locke instead, returning with a dead boar for the camp. That evening, Claire leads a memorial as the fuselage burns. Locke denies seeing the creature when Michael asks him about it. Looking toward the fire, he watches his wheelchair burn with the wreckage.
