Gang-tae joins the portrait after finding Moon-young's note thanking him and Sang-tae for giving her a family. He remains concerned about the threatening message and asks both of them to be careful. Their book continues, with Moon-young encouraging Sang-tae to study real expressions for his illustrations. At the hospital, Yoo Seon-hae's father arrives asking her to donate part of her liver. Director Oh confronts his earlier failure to protect her from abuse. Seon-hae tells her father how she waited for him and how much she hates what he did. His need for help does not erase the history she wants him to acknowledge.
Dae-hwan deteriorates and recounts attacking his wife after discovering that she had killed someone. He says Moon-young saw the attack and admits he also tried to kill his daughter because he feared she would become like her mother. After his death, the brothers accompany Moon-young to his memorial. She remembers an evening when he read to her and talks about selling the mansion. The family's attempt to move forward is interrupted when Sang-tae discovers a butterfly painted on his mural. He recognizes it as the image worn by his mother's killer. Moon-young identifies her mother's unique brooch design and runs from the hospital in distress. The closing scene shows Head Nurse Park wearing the brooch, turning suspicion toward someone inside the ward.
