Criston's campaign gathers strength as surrendered castles add men to his army. His next target is Rook's Rest, a coastal stronghold whose fall would tighten pressure on Dragonstone. In King's Landing, Aegon discovers that Aemond and Criston have been planning without him. Aemond humiliates him at council, and Alicent tells him to leave decisions to those who know more. Angry and sidelined, Aegon mounts Sunfyre and flies to the battle himself.
Rhaenyra returns from her failed meeting with Alicent to find her council demanding action. She refuses to risk Jacaerys and accepts Rhaenys's offer to take Meleys to Rook's Rest. Before the prince can leave her chamber, she explains Aegon the Conqueror's dream and why Viserys entrusted it to her. At Harrenhal, Daemon struggles with further visions and tries to win Riverlands support while the main armies move towards a confrontation he cannot control.
Meleys attacks Criston's soldiers before Aegon arrives, and Rhaenys gains the advantage when the dragons fight. Aemond then brings Vhagar into the battle and burns Aegon and Sunfyre along with their opponent, sending the king down. Rhaenys turns back to face Vhagar rather than retreat. The larger dragon catches and kills Meleys, and Rhaenys falls with her. Criston finds the injured Aegon beside Sunfyre, while Aemond walks away holding his brother's dagger.
