Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
House begins the final season in prison after driving into Cuddy’s home. Foreman, now dean of medicine, arranges his conditional release so House can return to Princeton-Plainsboro and help with a dangerous case. The hospital has changed: Cuddy is gone, Wilson is angry, and House has to work with new doctors Jessica Adams and Chi Park before Chase and Taub return. House settles back into diagnostics, but parole keeps a clock over his head and his friendships remain tangled with his schemes.
The team handles new cases while House’s personal life drifts through his sham marriage to Dominika and a string of attempts to avoid consequences. Chase is badly wounded by a patient and later considers leaving House’s shadow. Then Wilson tells House he has cancer. House helps him try an aggressive treatment, but it fails, and Wilson chooses to stop chemotherapy. House wants more time with his friend and repeatedly tries to change his mind; Wilson insists that the choice belongs to him. Their friendship becomes the season’s central question as House’s parole violation threatens to send him back to prison for six months.
In the finale, House is trapped in a burning building after using heroin with a former patient who dies. Visions of people from his past force him to confront whether he wants to keep living, and he gets out before the fire consumes the building. Everyone else believes House died, until Wilson receives a message and finds him alive: House switched dental records with the patient and faked his death. That choice means he can no longer practise medicine, but it lets him spend Wilson’s remaining months with him. At the hospital, Chase takes over diagnostics, while Foreman finds House’s ID badge and realizes he survived; House and Wilson leave together on motorcycles.
