Season synopsis

Four months after the Kirby Plaza explosion, Peter wakes in Ireland without his memories, while Hiro remains in feudal Japan after travelling back in time. Hiro befriends samurai Takezo Kensei and grows close to Yaeko, the swordsmith’s daughter from Kensei’s legend; they kiss before Hiro returns to the present. In New York, Matt and Molly try to build a family, and Claire attempts a quieter life in California. New faces include Monica Dawson, whose ability lets her reproduce actions she sees, and Maya and Alejandro Herrera, siblings fleeing after Maya’s power causes deaths.
The Company’s past comes into view through its founders and its work on the Shanti virus, which can kill people with abilities. Adam Monroe, the long-lived Kensei, joins Peter and persuades him that destroying the virus is their goal. But Adam intends to release it. Sylar, having lost his powers, manipulates Mohinder and Maya while seeking a way to regain them; Claire’s healing blood becomes the key. Meanwhile, Claire and West’s relationship gives her a reason to imagine escape from her father’s surveillance, while Noah is pulled back into Company work to protect his family.
At Primatech in Odessa, Nathan and Matt expose Adam’s plan to Peter. Hiro teleports Adam away as the virus falls, and Peter catches and destroys it before it can spread. Hiro later seals Adam inside a coffin. Niki helps Micah rescue Monica from a burning warehouse but is trapped when it explodes, so her survival is left uncertain. Sylar escapes with Claire’s blood and uses it to restore his abilities. Nathan is shot at a press conference just as he is about to reveal the existence of people with abilities; the season leaves his condition unresolved.
