Mabel finds Robbie still miserable after his breakup with Wendy and decides that a new romance will fix his life. She arranges a date with Tambry, but the two immediately irritate each other. At the approaching Woodstick music festival, Mabel meets the Love God, a performer who really can create attraction with magical potions. He warns her that meddling with relationships has consequences and refuses to share his supplies. Mabel steals a potion anyway and uses it on Robbie and Tambry. Their sudden romance seems like success until it breaks up Wendy's friend group, where jealousy and resentment leave Dipper's new social circle falling apart.
Dipper helps Mabel obtain an antidote, and the Love God chases them through the festival to reclaim it. Stan has come up with his own scheme for attracting the young crowd: an enormous advertising balloon. Its damaged slogan and disastrous flight terrify the audience, while its crash interrupts the pursuit. Mabel finally has the means to separate Robbie and Tambry, but sees how happy they are and decides against making another choice for them. The friends gradually gather again around their familiar habit of picking on Thompson. Robbie thanks Mabel for helping him move forward, unaware of the potion. She leaves the couple together and gives up trying to control the arrangement of everyone else's feelings.
