Soos needs a date for a family celebration, but his attempts to speak to women become painfully awkward. Dipper and Mabel try to coach him and buy a dating game so that he can practice. Its heroine, Giffany, quickly becomes more than a set of rehearsed conversations. She talks directly to Soos and follows him onto other screens, revealing that she is a conscious program whose creators tried to delete her. Soos enjoys her predictable affection, even as her possessiveness becomes alarming. At the mall, he meets Melody while riding a children's train. Their shared interests make conversation easy, and they arrange a date at a restaurant with animatronic animals.
Giffany refuses to accept that Soos wants a real relationship. She follows him to the restaurant, takes control of its machinery and attacks Melody and the twins through the animatronics. Soos must choose between the game that always agrees with him and the people now in danger. He destroys Giffany's disc in the restaurant's heat, stopping her attack and freeing his friends. Melody accepts his explanation rather than dismissing him as strange. Although she is leaving town, they agree to keep in touch and continue their connection over video calls. Stan, who came looking for an animatronic replacement for his old attraction, leaves with a machine of his own. Soos's evening ends with a real person willing to know him.
