Dipper, Mabel, Soos and Stan fall into the bottomless pit while dumping rubbish outside the Shack. With no ground in sight, they pass the descent by telling stories. Dipper describes his frustration when everyone mocks his changing voice and a potion from McGucket that gives him a powerful adult sound. His attempts to use it lead to trouble, and he eventually prefers his own voice. Soos then recounts cheating at an old pinball machine with the twins. The game's furious cowboy pulls them inside, where its moving machinery and giant balls become immediate threats to the three friends.
Soos knows how to reach the power switch, but shutting the machine down will erase the high score he wanted for years. He chooses the twins' safety and loses the score to free them. Stan contributes an extravagant football victory tale that the others quickly dismiss. In Mabel's story, she fits Stan with magical dentures that force him to tell the truth, hoping to stop his constant lies. His honesty insults strangers and exposes crimes to the police, so Mabel invents a cover story to protect him and learns why absolute truth can hurt. Their storytelling ends when the pit throws the group back out. Having returned safely, they discover that their long fall took almost no time outside.
