Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
Rachel returns to Lima after her television show fails and finds McKinley’s arts programs stripped away. She persuades the superintendent to restore New Directions and recruits a new class with Kurt as co-coach. Blaine leads the Warblers, while Will coaches Vocal Adrenaline. Sue tries to undermine the revived club while scheming to reunite Kurt and Blaine. Kitty returns, New Directions wins Sue’s invitational, and Coach Beiste receives support from his friends as he transitions. Will quits Vocal Adrenaline after failing to change its members’ cruel treatment of others and becomes New Directions’ adviser.
Santana and Brittany’s wedding becomes a double ceremony when Kurt and Blaine reconcile and marry alongside them. After Dalton Academy burns down, the Warblers join New Directions. Becky exposes Sue’s private schemes to the superintendent, who fires her; a television exposé follows. Sue takes over Vocal Adrenaline, but New Directions wins Sectionals. She later tells Will that she deliberately sabotaged her own choir because he defended her during the exposé. Rachel turns down a musical opposite Jesse St. James and returns to NYADA.
The last two episodes revisit the original club’s formation in 2009, then reveal what follows its latest Nationals victory. McKinley becomes a performing-arts school, Will becomes principal and Sam takes charge of New Directions. Five years later, Kurt and Blaine perform in New York and visit schools to promote acceptance. Rachel is married to Jesse, wins a Tony and is carrying Kurt and Blaine’s child as their surrogate. Artie and Tina are together, and Sue, now vice president, returns for the dedication of McKinley’s auditorium to Finn Hudson. Will and his former students reunite there in song.
