Tyrion argues that Daenerys should spare Jorah but dismiss him because his concealed spying destroyed her trust. She sends Jorah away again and keeps Tyrion as an adviser. Jorah returns to the slaver and asks to fight in the pits. In Braavos, Arya practises the identity of Lanna, an oyster seller, while preparing to poison a dishonest merchant. Cersei refuses to confess, and Qyburn brings news of the charges and Kevan's return to power.
At Winterfell, Theon admits that the burned children were farmboys, giving Sansa her first knowledge that Bran and Rickon escaped. Ramsay asks Roose for twenty men to attack Stannis's camp. Jon and Tormund reach Hardhome to bring the wildlings south. Tormund kills the hostile Lord of Bones, and Jon offers the elders safety and an alliance against the dead. Some agree to leave, but the evacuation is interrupted by a sudden assault of wights.
The dead overrun Hardhome while Jon tries to retrieve the dragonglass. A White Walker kills the Thenn leader, then attacks Jon. Longclaw withstands its weapon and shatters the Walker, revealing that Valyrian steel can kill it. The defenders cannot hold the settlement, and Jon withdraws to the boats with the remaining survivors. As he watches from the water, the Night King raises his arms. The people killed in the attack rise to join his army.
