Oraetta brings poisoned macarons to Dr. Harvard and searches his office while he collapses. She finds the anonymous warning signed by a concerned citizen. After discovering Antoon's body, Josto and Calamita conclude that Rabbi has taken Satchel. Josto orders Calamita to find and kill them both. Calamita searches for the boy at the Cannon house, but Buel confronts him with a shotgun and drives him away. Loy remains cautious about committing his men to a wider war while he still lacks certainty about his son's whereabouts.
Ebal and Josto approach Loy with an offer of territory in exchange for Gaetano. Josto disrupts the negotiation by falsely announcing that Calamita has killed Satchel and Rabbi. He offers further concessions if Loy kills both Gaetano and Calamita, hoping to dispose of his own troublesome men. Loy orders the visitors out and tells Buel the devastating news. That night, he considers killing Zero in retaliation, but lets the child return to his room unharmed. After recognising Josto's attempt to manipulate him, Loy changes tactics. He gives Zelmare and Swanee tickets out of town and warns them against returning. He then tells Gaetano his brother wanted him dead and releases him, while sending Omie to hunt down Calamita.
