Lou arrests Ed after the butcher-shop fire, leaving Hank to question Peggy at home. Ed asks for a lawyer and receives Karl Weathers, who has been drinking. Bear is furious that Dodd sent Charlie on the failed killing mission, and Floyd orders him to retrieve his son. Dodd is sent after Ed. Simone tells Milligan that her relatives are leaving the farm, asking him to kill her father. Milligan takes advantage of the exposed house instead, arriving with his men and opening fire. The attack interrupts Floyd's confrontation with Simone about her loyalties.
Dodd's men reach the Blumquist house, where Hank insists that Ed is elsewhere. Hanzee knocks Hank unconscious and heads for the station, while Dodd searches for Peggy. His assault goes badly: he shoots one of his own men, and Peggy eventually turns his cattle prod against him. At the police station, Bear demands Charlie's release while Lou waits for distant reinforcements. Lou sends Karl outside to represent Charlie and slips Ed out through a window. Karl persuades Bear that storming the station would worsen his son's legal position, and Bear withdraws. Lou and Ed meet Hank beyond the woods, but Ed breaks away. The officers know he is heading home. Hanzee emerges behind them and follows Ed's route.
