The Myth of Sisyphus

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Fingerprints on the Waffle Hut gun identify Rye Gerhardt, turning the diner investigation into a search for him. Hank posts a wanted notice at the beauty salon, where Betsy suggests that the missing gunman may have been struck by a car. Peggy dismisses the idea but immediately understands the danger to her and Ed. After Ed sees Rye's picture, Peggy proposes another collision to explain their damaged car. Their attempt to stage the crash goes wrong on an icy road. Ed hurts his neck, and Peggy keeps working on an innocent explanation for the damage.

Lou travels to Fargo and meets Detective Ben Schmidt, who accompanies him to the Gerhardt farm. The family gives Lou a hostile reception, leaving him without the cooperation he needs. At Skip Sprang's typewriter store, he encounters Milligan and the Kitchen brothers conducting their own search. Lou holds his ground during the armed confrontation and leaves without a shootout. Simone supplies Hanzee with a lead that brings them to Rye's apartment, where they catch Skip. Dodd questions the salesman, but Skip cannot explain Rye's disappearance. Dodd and Hanzee force him into a hole and bury him alive beneath hot asphalt. Dodd sends Hanzee toward Luverne to continue looking for his brother.
