Fezco's childhood shows how his grandmother brought him into the drug trade and how he became responsible for Ashtray. Her collapse left him caring for both his household and the business. In the present, Ashtray's killing of Mouse has forced a change of supplier. Fezco takes Rue to a dangerous meeting with Laurie, where the people accompanying him are searched and threatened before the deal proceeds.
At a New Year's party, Nate picks up Cassie and begins a secret encounter with her in a bathroom. Maddy's arrival at the door forces Cassie to hide, protecting the betrayal from immediate discovery. Elsewhere, Fezco and Lexi find an unexpectedly easy conversation about their lives and exchange telephone numbers. The gentle connection gives Fezco a different kind of evening from the tense transaction that brought him there.
Rue uses drugs with Elliot and experiences a frightening reaction before finding Jules again. She admits that she relapsed after their separation, and the two acknowledge how much they have missed one another. Their kiss offers a reunion while leaving Rue's addiction unresolved. As midnight arrives, Fezco approaches Nate and attacks him with a bottle, then continues striking him until others intervene. The party ends with Nate badly injured, Cassie carrying a secret and Lexi shocked by Fezco's violence.
