Kat's childhood rejection and success writing fan fiction explain the distance between her anonymous online popularity and her ordinary school life. After the leaked recording brings unwanted attention, she begins producing paid webcam content. Money and compliments encourage her to change her appearance, and she returns to school with a confidence that her classmates immediately notice. Her online audience now influences how she carries herself in person.
Rue accepts recognition for sixty days of sobriety even though she has not earned it. Ali recognizes the lie and offers help without accepting her excuses. Rue is also worried about Jules's attachment to the stranger calling himself Tyler, especially when Jules plans to meet him. Their disagreement reflects Rue's fear for her friend and her own growing romantic feelings, which she has difficulty saying aloud.
After they reconcile, Rue kisses Jules, panics and runs away before they can discuss what happened. She goes to Fezco looking for drugs, but he refuses to sell to her after the frightening encounter with Mouse. Rue turns her distress against him and blames him for her addiction while he keeps the door closed. With that familiar escape unavailable, she calls Ali. The episode ends with Rue reaching toward support after lying to her recovery group and struggling to manage her feelings for Jules.
