Mo-yeon helps save Shi-jin after he arrives at the hospital with gunshot wounds. North Korean officer Ahn Jung-joon is also injured and under guard. Shi-jin tries to learn why Ahn approached him and what is behind the attacks surrounding the diplomatic talks. A microchip offers evidence, but their room is monitored. Mo-yeon arranges a private meeting in the CT room. Ahn explains that trained soldiers have been exploited as mercenaries and a senior official has betrayed his own men. He wants to complete his mission and return home, even when Shi-jin warns that doing so may get him killed.
Shi-jin gives Ahn a snack packet before the handover, then secretly leaves the hospital. Ahn confronts the official, and the apparent shooting that follows becomes part of Shi-jin's plan to expose the betrayal while keeping Ahn alive. The evidence prevents the official from escaping the consequences, and Ahn returns north. Shi-jin slips back into his room with Dae-young's help, but Mo-yeon sees through his attempt to hide the absence. Elsewhere, Chi-hoon's partner gives birth and Dr. Song and Nurse Ha grow closer. Mo-yeon asks Shi-jin to stop arriving covered in blood, and finally watches a film beside him. They fall asleep together after another interrupted attempt at an ordinary evening.
