Season synopsis

Nucky Thompson tries to broaden his business through a Tampa land deal while keeping peace with Joe Masseria, and he renews his connection with Margaret, now working on Wall Street. Atlantic City’s Northside becomes the center of a fight between Chalky White and Dr. Valentin Narcisse, a Harlem operator who sends singer Daughter Maitland to Chalky’s Onyx Club and courts Chalky’s lieutenant Dunn Purnsley. Chalky falls for Daughter and puts his authority at risk as Narcisse encourages division in the Northside. Meanwhile, Nucky’s nephew Willie becomes involved in a college prank that ends in a death, giving federal agent Warren Knox a way to pressure Eli. Richard Harrow, pulled back into contract killings, returns to Julia and Tommy but struggles to leave his past behind.
After Chalky returns to Atlantic City seeking revenge, Nucky arranges a summit with Narcisse at the Onyx Club, then covertly assigns Richard to assassinate him. Richard accepts in exchange for Jimmy’s burial location, which lets investigators prove that the man Gillian killed was not Jimmy and secures Richard’s bid to keep Tommy. Maybelle steps into the line of fire and Richard’s bullet kills her instead of Narcisse; wounded, Richard dies beneath the Boardwalk after imagining a reunion with Julia and Tommy. Eli kills Knox in a brutal fight and is sent to Chicago, while Gillian is charged and jailed. Narcisse is forced to cooperate with federal authorities. Federal agents detain Nucky as he sets off for Florida, after he has preserved his business at the cost of Chalky’s daughter, Richard, and his brother’s freedom.
