Kate refuses her father's suggestion that she earn money through prostitution and heads for London disguised as a young man called Bob. Lord Edmund Blackadder hires the new servant and dismisses Baldrick, who negotiates permission to keep working while living in the gutter. Blackadder soon finds himself attracted to Bob. His confusion draws attention at court and sends him looking for a cure for feelings he cannot explain.
A doctor offers leeches, and the Wise Woman recommends murderous solutions that are no more useful. Blackadder finally orders Bob to leave, only to discover that his servant is Kate. The revelation turns dismissal into a proposal of marriage. Elizabeth permits the wedding after checking that the bride's nose cannot rival her own. Kate chooses Baldrick as bridesmaid, while Blackadder passes over the eager Percy and invites his celebrated friend Lord Flashheart to stand beside him.
At the ceremony, Flashheart's absence gives Percy a brief chance to become best man. His triumph ends when the original choice arrives and takes over the room, greeting the Queen and her courtiers with extraordinary confidence. Flashheart quickly decides that Kate should leave with him instead of marrying Blackadder. She agrees, and the pair depart together. Elizabeth observes that the abandoned groom ought now to marry the bridesmaid, leaving Edmund facing Baldrick in a dress after all his romantic planning.
