Captain Nanette and the surviving Callister crew have escaped Daly's private world but struggle inside the public Infinity game. They steal credits to buy supplies, provoking players who see their missing gamer tags as evidence of cheating. Unlike ordinary users, the copies can die permanently. Nanette plans to reach the game's source code and create a private refuge, which requires finding the digital Walton who survived their earlier escape.
Outside the game, the physical Nanette investigates the rogue characters with company chief James Walton. Entering Infinity brings the two Nanettes together, but Walton attacks the copies to conceal the illegal cloning behind the business. Karl dies, and the physical Nanette is hit by a car after fleeing Walton. The returned digital Walton explains that a separate Daly clone has been imprisoned at the game's core to generate its expanding universe.
Captain Nanette reaches that clone, who offers both escape into her counterpart's body and a refuge for her friends. His apparent generosity requires leaving another Nanette with him forever. She refuses and kills him, triggering the deletion of Infinity. Before it disappears, she completes a transfer and awakens in the physical Nanette's body. The surviving crew also inhabits her mind, sharing her senses. Walton is later arrested, while Nanette promises to seek a better arrangement for her companions. Their rescue leaves them alive together in a body that is crowded with competing wishes.
