Easy Company reaches the Eagle's Nest as German resistance collapses, then faces an unfamiliar life among the mountains of Germany and Austria. Winters gives Nixon access to a remarkable wine cellar, and the men collect souvenirs while waiting to learn where the army will send them next. Discharge depends on accumulated service points, leaving some eligible to go home and others facing possible deployment against Japan. Winters asks about a transfer to the Pacific, but the prospect of another war hangs over men already struggling with the uncertainty of occupation. Even Sobel reappears, now required to salute the officer he once commanded.
Peace brings no guarantee of safety. Janovec dies in a road accident, Shifty is injured after winning a chance to leave, and a drunken soldier shoots Grant in the head. Speirs searches for help to save Grant and confronts the captured shooter. Elsewhere, Liebgott translates a defeated German officer's farewell to his troops, hearing a bond formed through combat that resembles Easy's own. A baseball game allows Winters to describe the men's later lives, including the ordinary work and families awaiting them beyond their military service. The closing interviews finally identify veterans whose faces have appeared throughout the series, connecting the dramatised characters with the men recounting their experiences.
