Jack emerges from the burning gas plant carrying an unconscious Bierko, and Curtis confirms that the Sentox was destroyed. Jack wants Bierko transported alive to CTU while he continues looking for Henderson. Gardner nevertheless orders Homeland Security to complete its takeover. Miles pressures Audrey to sign a statement blaming Buchanan for CTU's failures. She eventually agrees in exchange for keeping Chloe at work, then privately explains that Jack needs Chloe's satellite access.
Aaron brings Wayne safely back to the presidential retreat, where they approach Martha's assistant Evelyn Martin. Wayne traced her correspondence with David Palmer and wants to know what his brother discovered. Evelyn reveals that her daughter Amy has been kidnapped to force her to surrender evidence. She will cooperate only if Amy is rescued. Wayne contacts Jack, and Evelyn receives instructions to meet Henderson at a coal plant with the material he demands.
Chloe provides satellite images while Jack and Wayne enter the plant and remove guards from the exchange site. Henderson releases Amy to Evelyn, then Jack opens fire on the men beside him. Henderson escapes in Evelyn's car before the satellite can follow him beyond the plant. Evelyn has been wounded but her daughter is safe. When Jack asks whether Gardner is responsible, she denies it. Henderson's subsequent call reveals that he is answering directly to President Logan.
