Day 3: 2:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M.

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Jack refuses Chase's suggestion that he seek treatment for his heroin addiction, insisting that he can stop without making it official. Kim then tells him that she and Chase are seriously involved. Jack says little to her, but argues with Chase as they leave CTU to investigate the dead dealer David Goss. He believes field work makes a normal relationship impossible and fears that his daughter will suffer the same losses his own family has endured.

Health Services reports that the virus could be carried in a white powder resembling street drugs. The investigation leads toward Kyle Singer, who was paid far more than his small delivery would normally justify. Kyle uses the money to keep his family from being evicted, but Linda finds the bag in his room. His explanation that he is delivering rather than selling drugs does not reassure her, and she breaks off their relationship.

Palmer prepares to continue his debate while Wayne obtains material from his opponent's campaign concerning Anne. The President is angry at Wayne's methods, but his brother warns that the information could damage them. Jack sends Chase back to CTU instead of letting him join the search for Kyle, openly linking the decision to Kim. At the office, Gael finishes another call to Hector and walks onto the CTU floor, revealing where the Salazars' informant has been working.
