Andre's men storm the detention facility after the power fails. Jack tries to move Victor with DeSalvo and the surviving guards, but the attackers cut them off. Andre threatens DeSalvo until Jack releases his father, then kills the warden anyway. Victor takes Jack hostage and escapes through the tunnels while CTU prepares an assault. Mason's superiors demand a quick resolution, and the tactical team is told that stopping Drazen may take priority over bringing Jack back alive.
Jack challenges Victor's demand for revenge and learns that the original operation killed a body double. Victor still blames Jack for his wife and daughter's deaths. When CTU enters the facility, the Drazens have already escaped through a route protected by mines. Outside, Victor prepares to kill Jack, but Jack reveals that Alexis is alive and in government custody. Knowledge of the injured son's meeting with Elizabeth convinces the Drazens to spare him and take him with them.
Kim stands up to Melanie in the holding cell, then defends her when another prisoner falsely accuses her of smoking. Melanie retracts her own lies, allowing the police to confirm Kim's story with CTU. Krugman releases her and drives her toward her mother, and Kim calls Teri to promise she will arrive soon. Before they reach safety, a van crashes into the police cruiser. Armed men shoot the escorts and drag Kim away, giving the Drazens another hostage.
