Jack and the wounded Rick try to reach the water tower while Teri and Kim follow a separate route through the compound. Guards force the women away from the creek bed, and they hide in a shack as Gaines searches for them. Jack returns to find his family and shoots the guard who discovers their hiding place. He takes the man's radio, giving them a way to follow the movements of their pursuers.
Gaines traps the Bauers near the water tower with his sniper rifle. Jack draws him away from Teri and Kim, then uses reflected light to distract him and wounds him. With CTU's helicopter arriving, Carroll abandons the fight. Jack tracks Gaines through the woods and offers protection if he surrenders, but Gaines turns his weapon on him. Jack shoots him dead and gives himself up to the tactical team before rejoining his family.
Palmer tries to expose Ferragamo's death, but Kingsley has abandoned her story and Carl threatens to implicate Keith in the killing. Palmer dismisses the district attorney rather than risk his son. At CTU, Nina and Tony trace money sent to Jamey's mother through a Belgrade company. The payments lead to another assassin who has only just travelled from Yugoslavia. As the Bauers leave by helicopter and Rick escapes alone, Nina warns that Palmer still faces an active threat.
