Jack takes Ted Cofell captive in the limousine and demands information about his family. Cofell receives instructions to meet Kevin Carroll in a parking garage but denies knowing about Gaines. Nina helps Jack assess him while hiding the contact from Alberta Green. Cofell eventually attacks with a concealed knife. Jack overpowers him, and Cofell's angry response in Serbian makes Jack suspect a personal connection to an earlier mission. Cofell dies during a heart attack before Jack can get the answers he needs.
Jack asks Nina to compare Cofell's background with his classified Operation Nightfall files. When Carroll arrives, Jack recognises the man who posed as Alan York. He traps him in the rear of the limousine, behind its bulletproof divider, and knocks him unconscious by swerving and braking. Carroll agrees to lead Jack to his family in return for his freedom once they are safe. Meanwhile, Palmer confronts Carl about the danger to Ferragamo and refuses to accept violence committed for his campaign.
Andre Drazen arrives at the compound and gives Gaines a final deadline, then orders the Bauers killed when it expires. Rick, already beaten by Eli, gives Teri and Kim a gun and apologises for bringing them into this. Eli enters their room to carry out the order. Teri's borrowed gun fails, and Kim struggles with him. Teri takes Eli's dropped weapon and shoots him, then fires again so the men outside will hear the expected two shots. Mother and daughter begin hiding his body as Carroll directs Jack toward them.
