Meet the Dragons as Dragonborn

On this page

Dragons return in Skyrim, and the store frames the fight as a personal one: as Dragonborn, you battle ancient dragons and then take what they know for yourself.

The fight is a feature, not a finale

Four parts of Skyrim's dragon premise: battle ancient dragons, be Dragonborn, learn their secrets, and harness their power for yourself.
The fight is also the unlock. Open the full image.

Battle ancient dragons like you have never seen is the store’s phrasing, and it is listed among the headline features rather than saved for the end. Treating dragon encounters as a system you learn instead of a boss you eventually reach is the more useful reading of that placement.

Dragonborn is a role, not a title

The store says that as Dragonborn you learn their secrets and harness their power for yourself. That turns the dragon fights into the source of a mechanic, which changes what a fight is for: the useful outcome is the knowledge you take away rather than simply the corpse you leave behind.

The engine is part of the pitch

The dragon return arrives alongside an all new graphics and gameplay engine, and the store pairs the two in the same breath. Since the world is described as a complete virtual world of rolling clouds, rugged mountains, bustling cities, lush fields and ancient dungeons, the dragons are something moving through it rather than a separate mode.

Who your Dragonborn is in the first place is covered in playing any type of character. Where all of this happens is covered in exploring the world the engine builds.
