Fill Storage Before Sending Iron Ingots to the Sink
On this page
Keep a container of Iron Ingots stocked while sending excess production to an AWESOME Sink. For unmodded Satisfactory on PC, this setup starts with the Smart Splitter and AWESOME Sink already unlocked.
Connect storage and the Sink
Build a Smart Splitter on a belt carrying only Iron Ingots. Connect its center output to a Storage Container, its left output to a powered AWESOME Sink, and leave the right output unconnected. Iron Ingots are a valid Sink input.
Open the splitter and set these rules:
- Center: Iron Ingot
- Left: Overflow
- Right: None
Overflow takes items when another usable output cannot accept them. Any Undefined has a different job: it handles items without their own item rule. It will not send these explicitly assigned Iron Ingots around a full storage line. Smart Splitter rules
Give both branches enough belt capacity for the incoming rate. A slow storage belt can trigger overflow while the container still has space; the rule checks whether the route can accept an item, rather than reading the container’s fill level.
Check storage and overflow
Start with room in the container and watch ingots enter it. Once the storage route fills, excess should move to the Sink. Remove a stack from storage: new ingots should return to that route as space opens.
If both routes stop, check the splitter’s input direction, rules and downstream belts. Check Sink power too. A small number of items retained inside the splitter can be its internal buffer; judge the continuing flow.
Use the three-Smelter manifold to organize an ingot supply. If you combine several outputs first, size the merged belt for their total rate.
