Grow One Combat Style
On this page
Bannerlord is sold on a deep but intuitive skill-based directional combat system, with the publisher promising that you create and develop a character that matches your play style.
Read the direction, then answer
Directional combat means the important information is which way a swing is travelling, not how fast you can mash. Watch the attack come in, answer in the matching line, and take the recovery window that follows. That loop is the same on foot and on horseback, which is why it is worth practising rather than avoiding.
Let the skills grow from use
The store describes developing a character across a sandbox of raiding, trading and conquest, and the combat system rewards repetition with one weapon far more than enthusiasm for four. Pick the weapon that suits how you actually fight, then let every engagement feed the same skill.
Keep the battle around you in mind
Because you fight inside a real-time battle with your own troops, personal duels are never the whole picture. A style that wins a one-on-one but leaves you out of formation will lose you the field, so test your weapon in a line of infantry before committing a campaign to it.
Commanding matters as much as swinging: see turning companions into a command structure. And pay for the war first with income before war.
