Choose Your Discipline

On this page

Dune: Awakening offers two described directions: study the slow blade, or learn to master the powers of the Mentat and the Bene Gesserit. The publisher presents both as disciplines to be learned rather than buttons to press.

The blade is decided up close

Pick the discipline you will actually practise. Open the full image.

The slow blade is a fighting path, and the store frames it as something you study. That suggests deliberate practice against real opponents rather than a stat you unlock, which makes it the natural choice for a player who wants to win by positioning and timing.

The powers solve different problems

Mentat and Bene Gesserit abilities are named alongside the blade, which puts them in the same role: ways to solve encounters. If you would rather avoid the stand-up fight, this is the path the official description points to.

You are an agent first

The framing matters: you are sent to Arrakis by the Bene Gesserit to investigate the missing Fremen. That makes the discipline a tool for a mission rather than the whole game, so pick the one that keeps you alive while you investigate rather than the one that sounds strongest.

Commit, because time on Arrakis is expensive

With sandworms, heat and storms consuming every trip, practice time is the scarcest resource you have. Splitting it across three disciplines usually leaves you mediocre at the one you needed.

Everything you do happens inside the desert’s rules: read surviving the sun and the sand. Then give yourself somewhere to recover in a base and a way out.
