Zeroes
Six teenagers in California have powers that ordinary people do not.
About
Zeroes is a young adult novel by the American writer Scott Westerfeld, published in 2015 and the first of a series.
The Zeroes are six teenagers with abilities that set them apart from everybody else, and they have not worked as a group for some time. Ethan, known as Scam, carries a voice inside him that will say whatever the person in front of him most wants to hear, whether or not it is true. That is occasionally useful and mostly dangerous, and it lands him in serious trouble when it starts talking in the middle of a bank robbery. He sends a distress call to the others, and Nate, the group's self-appointed leader, pulls them back together to get him out. The rescue goes wrong, which pushes the six of them into encounters with progressively more dangerous criminals across the city, and at the centre of the mess is a girl named Kelsie whose connection to all of them matters.
Westerfeld writes fast, morally complicated adventure for teenagers, and this series is as interested in the personalities of the Zeroes as in what their powers can do.
