Wishes
Jace Montgomery comes to Chandler, Colorado, as a stranger: tall, proud and homesick for his family in Maine.
About
Wishes is a historical romance by the American writer Jude Deveraux, published in 1989. It is one of the novels in her Montgomery/Taggert sequence.
The book is set in Chandler, Colorado, where Nellie Grayson lives in the shadow of her younger sister Terel, whose social success is largely the result of Nellie's own tireless effort on her behalf. Jace Montgomery arrives in town a stranger, homesick for his close-knit family in Maine, and to general surprise he is drawn to Nellie rather than to her sister, so that for the first time in her life she is the centre of attention. The novel follows the courtship, Nellie's uncertainty about whether a man like Jace could genuinely prefer her to a sister as beautiful as Terel, and the help she receives from an enchanting new friend who shows her how to look at her own situation. Deveraux's Montgomery and Taggert novels are connected by two families rather than by a single continuing story, and this one belongs to the part of the sequence set in the American West.
The romances in the sequence were written across several decades and move between historical settings in England and in the United States.
