When in Rome
Amelia Rose has spent years being the pop star Rae Rose for her fans and is worn out by it.
About
Sarah Adams's When in Rome, published in 2022, begins with Amelia Rose, who for years has performed the role of Rae Rose, the princess of pop, for her fans, and has grown tired of it. On an impulse she leaves in the middle of the night, heading for a holiday in Rome, Kentucky: the town's name matches the setting of Roman Holiday, the Audrey Hepburn film she loves.
Amelia ends up on the lawn of Noah Walker's house in a broken-down car. Noah has his grandmother's pie shop to run and no patience for celebrity trouble, and much of his energy goes on telling his nosy but well-meaning neighbours to mind their own business. He offers her the spare room until her car is repaired and not a day beyond, which is how the two of them end up spending the week together, while Noah shows her the small-town experiences she has never had and she gets to know a place where almost nobody knows who she is.
When in Rome was published in 2022, and it is a small-town romance built around a celebrity who arrives in a place where she is not known as one, in a town whose name she chose because of a film.
