Vampire Academy
St Vladimir's Academy is a boarding school like no other, a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teenagers train to protect them.
About
Vampire Academy is a 2007 young adult novel by Richelle Mead and the first book in the series of the same name.
Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, and her position is defined by her relationship to Lissa Dragomir, a Moroi vampire princess and her closest friend. The two of them had left the academy and are returned to it against their wishes, which puts them back inside a place the novel describes as dangerous for both of them, partly because of the school's internal politics and the ruthless social hierarchy among the students. St. Vladimir's trains half-human Dhampirs to guard the Moroi, so Rose's friendship with Lissa is also an assignment, and the decision to run away from the school has consequences for both of them.
Around the school material the book sets forbidden romance and the threat of the Strigoi, the most dangerous vampires in its world, who want to make Lissa one of them. Night-time rituals at the academy are described as unspeakable, which indicates how the novel moves between the social and the supernatural. It launched a series and became one of the better-known young adult vampire books of its period.
