Truth or die
Trevor Mann is a lawyer who has finally found a life he likes, with a journalist girlfriend called Claire Parker who is always chasing the next story.
About
Truth or Die is a novel by the American writer James Patterson, published in 2015.
Trevor is a competent attorney whose career has one serious failure in it, and when Claire's enquiry ends in violence he does what she would have done and starts reading what she left behind. The trail leads to a claim about a piece of information that several very different organisations want, and to a teenager who is clever enough to be useful and not old enough to be careful. Patterson writes in short chapters with several points of view, and the book keeps the chase at the centre while the people involved are picked off one by one. The novel's question is whether a secret that would be dangerous in anybody's hands should be published at all.
It is one of the author's stand-alone thrillers, and it was published in the middle of a run of his series novels; it is also one of the few in which the lawyer rather than the police officer is the protagonist.
