Toxic Game (GhostWalker)

Toxic Game is a romantic suspense novel by the American writer Christine Feehan, published in 2019 as part of her GhostWalker sequence. It sets its two leads in a hot zone rather than a city, and the clock the story runs on is a pathogen rather than an army.

Dr Draden Freeman and his GhostWalker team are sent into the Indonesian jungle to extract the wounded as quickly as possible, because the virus that has infected them was released deliberately by a terrorist cell and cannot be allowed to spread. When Draden is infected he orders his own team to leave him behind rather than expose anyone else, and stays to find the people who did it.

Shylah Cosmos is tracking the same virus and is under orders to remain unseen. Her enhanced senses tell her that the man destroying the terrorists one at a time is a GhostWalker, and when a stray shot hits him she steps in to save him without knowing what saving him will cost her. The novel follows the two of them through the outbreak and the pursuit that follows it.
