To the Far Blue Mountains
Barnabas Sackett is leaving England for good to make his fortune in the New World, but a warrant sworn against him by Queen Elizabeth sends him into hiding instead.
About
To the Far Blue Mountains is a novel by Louis L'Amour, published in 1976, and it belongs to his long sequence of books about the Sackett family.
Barnabas Sackett has decided to leave England forever and find his fortune in the New World, and before he can settle his affairs he learns that a warrant has been sworn against him and that men are searching every port for him. His trouble comes from some rare gold coins he found and sold: they are believed to belong to a treasure lost by King John, and the Queen has concluded that Sackett must know where the rest of it is. What follows is a pursuit across England and then the Atlantic, with a man trying to reach his ship before his pursuers reach him, and the novel mixes the adventure of escape with the practical business of a settler heading into country nobody has mapped.
L'Amour wrote the Sackett novels out of order and across different centuries, and this one is set in the earliest period of the family's story, when they were Englishmen first and Americans later.
