To Marry a Scottish Laird
Campbell Sinclair intervenes when he sees a young lad set upon by bandits, and takes a wound for his trouble.
About
To Marry a Scottish Laird is a historical romance by the Canadian writer Lynsay Sands, published in 2014 and part of her Highland Brides series.
Campbell Sinclair is a Highlander who has been in enough fights not to think twice about stepping into another one, and when he sees a boy being robbed on the road he does exactly that and gets stabbed for it. The lad he rescues turns out to be a young woman called Joan, travelling dressed as a boy because a woman alone on that road would not have got far, and carrying a scroll that she has promised her mother to deliver to a particular clan. The two of them travel on together, with the laird offering protection and Joan trying to keep her disguise and her errand intact, and the deception does not hold. Sands writes the series as historical romances in the Highlands, with the practical problems of travel, weather and hospitality in the middle of them.
The novel is one of a series of Highland romances, and the lairds and clans in it are connected to the families in the other books.
