Three Nights
Aveline Stoddard's father loses everything at the card table, and she agrees to submit to the winner for three nights in settlement of the debt.
About
Three Nights is a historical romance by Debra Mullins, published by Avon Books in 2004 and set in Regency England.
Aveline Stoddard's father ruins himself in a single night of gambling, and to honour the debt his daughter agrees to spend three nights with the man who holds it: Lucien DuFeron, a rogue with a reputation dark enough to have earned him the nickname Lucifer. What begins as a settlement of accounts becomes something neither of them can dismiss, and then Lucien disappears, taken by brigands and imprisoned for five years. When he returns to London his intention is to find the man responsible for his abduction, and what he finds instead is Aveline, now a woman with a life of her own and no intention of being somebody's unfinished business. The novel brings the two of them back into each other's company and asks whether an arrangement that began as a debt can be refounded on better terms.
Mullins writes a sensual historical romance with a revenge plot attached, and the obstacle for the couple is the way their relationship started.
