Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos
Theodosia Throckmorton is eleven and spends her time in the London museum where her parents work, removing curses from the Egyptian objects that come into the collection.
About
Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos is a children's novel by the American writer R. L. LaFevers, published in 2007. It is the first of her books about a girl with an unusual talent for Egyptian magic.
Theodosia can feel the curses that cling to the antiquities arriving at the Museum of Legends and Antiquities, where her father is the keeper, and she has taught herself how to neutralise them. It is delicate work, and she is the only person in the building who knows it needs doing, since her parents do not believe that the objects carry anything at all.
A crate arrives from her mother in Egypt with a statue of the goddess Bastet in it, and while Theodosia is transferring its curse to a wax figure she is distracted and the curse goes somewhere she did not intend. After that the museum fills up with more Egyptian material, and Theodosia discovers that two secret organisations are both interested in what has arrived. One of them wants to keep the artefacts from being used, and the other wants to use them.
