The Slippery Slope
The Baudelaire orphans are separated on a mountain road, with Violet and Klaus left behind while Sunny is carried off by Count Olaf and his troupe.
About
The Slippery Slope is the tenth book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, the children's series by the American writer Lemony Snicket, published in 2003.
Violet and Klaus Baudelaire are stranded on a mountain road after the events of the previous book, with their baby sister Sunny held by Count Olaf and his theatre troupe in a car heading up into the Mortmain Mountains. To get her back they have to follow the range on foot, in weather worse than anything they have faced, and read the signs left behind by the organisation whose initials keep turning up in the wreckage of the adults who were supposed to protect them. The book continues directly from The Carnivorous Carnival, which left the three children in a caravan on the same mountain range. The series is narrated by Lemony Snicket, who addresses the reader directly and warns repeatedly that the story has no happy ending to offer, and each book leaves the children further from safety than they were.
Brett Helquist illustrated the series, and the books were translated into many languages.
