The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
At a party at Blackheath, the young woman of the house is shot dead as the fireworks go off.
About
The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is a mystery novel by the British writer Stuart Turton, published in 2018. It blends a classic country-house murder with a story that repeats the same day over and over.
At a party at Blackheath, the young woman of the house, Evelyn Hardcastle, is shot dead as the fireworks go off. The day then begins again, and it will keep repeating until one of the guests, Aiden Bishop, can name the killer.
Each time the morning comes round again, Aiden wakes inside a different person at the party, so every clue has to be gathered from inside somebody else's life and the same events have to be read differently depending on who he is. He has a set number of hosts and days to work with, and he is not the only one caught in the loop.
Turton wrote the novel as a puzzle that borrows from country-house mysteries and adds a time loop, and it is a standalone book.
