Small Sam and the Kid have reached the Tower of London, where Jordan Hordern's crew offers food, walls and friendship, and Sam cannot settle.

About

The Sacrifice is a novel by the English writer Charles Higson, published in 2012 and part of his series about children surviving in a London overrun by the infected.

The book picks up the story after Small Sam and the Kid reach the Tower of London, which has become a stronghold under Jordan Hordern and his crew. Sam is safe there and cannot make himself care. His sister, Ella, is somewhere else in the city, and the only thing he wants is to find her, so he argues his way out of the Tower with the Kid against the advice of everyone who has kept him alive so far and walks west into the area nobody goes into on purpose.

At the same time a figure called Shadowman is crossing north London in the tracks of Saint George, a man assembling a following, and Shadowman cannot find anybody who will take the threat seriously. The novel moves between Sam's small journey and the much larger danger that is being organised behind him, in a series where the adults are the monsters and the young are left to decide who to trust.
