The Royal We
Rebecca Porter was never the sister who dreamed of being a princess; that was her twin.
About
The Royal We is a novel by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, published in 2015, and it is a story of romance and rivalry inspired by the most discussed royal marriage of the era.
Bex Porter is an American student who goes to Oxford for an adventure and meets Nick across the hall from her room. He is charming, ordinary in the ways that matter, and the heir to the British throne, which means that falling in love with him involves acquiring a set of problems she did not ask for: friends who want something from her, a family with long memories, tabloids that follow her movements, and a public that has already decided who she is. Her twin sister Lacey, who spent their adolescence dreaming of exactly this, has complicated feelings about the sequence of events. The novel follows Bex through years of courtship and pressure as she works out whether the life she has stumbled into is one she actually wants, and what she is willing to do to keep it.
Cocks and Morgan write the book as a long, gossipy romance with an eye for the machinery of public life, and Bex's problem is that being loved by a prince is only the beginning of the story.
