The Revolution of Ivy
Ivy Westfall was married to the President's son as part of the settlement between the winning and losing sides of a war, and given a mission: to kill her new husband.
About
The Revolution of Ivy is a young adult novel by Amy Engel, published in 2015 and the second half of a two-part story.
Ivy Westfall is sixteen and a traitor to the arrangement she was born into. She was married to Bishop Lattimer, the President's son, as the daughters of the losing side in a war routinely are, and she accepted the marriage as cover for a mission to kill him. Instead she fell in love with him, which is why she is now outside the fence, left to survive in the country beyond the settlement, where there is no law and very little food. The novel follows her attempt to live out there and her discovery that there are people beyond the fence, and lives being lived, and that her own actions inside Westfall have set off a chain of events that will reshape the settlement. Survival is no longer enough for her; the second half of the book is about what she intends to do with what she has learned.
Engel writes a dystopian sequel in which the heroine's problems are moral rather than merely physical, and the story returns her to the society that exiled her.
